Vinnie Zummo is a
guitar player by trade and was with the Joe Jackson Band for
about 7 years. Also, he is a writer, producer, and creates
Hip Hop drum loops and sample cds for Zero G, and puts out
his own CDS, the latest one being "Swinging Guitar Sounds Of Young America".
Some have said the CD causes "Genre Whiplash". Vinnie's current thing is
adding "icing" to people's songs. Little lo fi touches and odd little touches to make a track
come alive. Of course he loves adding a guitar solo as well if the song seems to want it.
Vinnie LOVES all kinds of music and he is a vampire for playing diffferent styles of it on a
daily basis. He craves the variety.
Vinnie is currently a top call session player in the New York City area.
Swinging Guitar Sounds Of Young America
"Swinging Guitar Sounds Of Young America" is a highly mixed bag album where a Beatles-like song can be followed by a live Cream-like cut, a Western Swing tune, Chicago Blues, Bluegrass pickin, Jeff Beck like ballad, 80's Pop, Earth Wind & Fire, Fusion, Cool bop etc... All packed with Vinnie Zummo!
With special appearances by: Joe Jackson, Barry Miles, Terry Silverlight, Will Lee, Marshall Crenshaw, Shawn Pelton, Graham Maby, Gary Burke , Joy Askew, Jeff Ganz, The Global Chant Choir and more!
"A cool minty fresh zephyr wafted through my CD player when Vinnie Zummo's CD started to spin. It turned into a blue sky spring day and in my backyard it sounded like The Ventures meet Steinberger at a party that Chet was throwing for the Beatles. A very nice CD, congrats!" say Steve Vai, guitar virtuoso.
"There's something
sort of touching about how many songs are obvious tributes to specific people . . . and also
how there is no obvious connection between them (Earth Wind and Fire and Les Paul?!) In the
end it kind of makes me chuckle. It comes across very much as a musician doing something from
the heart rather than thinking like an A&R man. And of course there's great playing." says
Joe Jackson, pop genius.
"In a word, Zummo-rific..." offers
Marshall Crenshaw, pop artist.
"The best CD I have purchased in a really long time!" says Margaret (Russo) Campbell. "It was a blast of nostalgia but in a very different, excellent, propelling, amazing way! Great versions! Great CD! I am going to take it back to work with me and let VERIZON get a taste of great music! Great work Vinny!"
A Retro Cool Bossa Nova Christmas With Vinnie Zummo
"A Retro Cool Bossa Nova Christmas" is a Christmas album
full of sophisticated, lucid jazz guitar soloing over a retro, cool, lounge,
bossa nova, silky vibe.
Picture a sunny December afternoon in Hollywood, 1963. Dean Martin is mixing a batch of martinis for Frank and the boys and throws this groovy bossa nova record on the turntable. Frank says "Groovy sounds, cats. The guitar player is kooky!" This is one scenario to envision while trying to describe this album.
