FreeFLO - Taking Kolkata To The Hip Hop World Map

FreeFLO - The Crew FreeFLO is a Rap Crew from Kolkata, India.In 2007, Satyaki Bose a.k.a 'Homicide' and Sukanto Chanda a.k.a 'LyriK' formed the group 'Crooked Rhyme', and in 1 year they became one of the best known rap crews in India, even being mentioned in Wikipedia. They even sold up to 500 units of their mix tape in 2008. Somraj Ganguly a.k.a 'Raz' was a member of another rap group in Kolkata till internal disputes occurred that eventually lead him to go Solo with several live performances in record. In late 2008, Homicide, Raz and LyriK formed the rap group 'FreeFLO'.

FreeFLO is unlike anything you'll hear on the radio or TV. Rather than sticking to current trends in Rap Music that are squeezing it dry, they make music for the masses. Something the people can relate to, and something that all the Clones and copy-artists in Hip Hop love to hate.

Lyrik

Sukanto Chanda a.k.a LyriK - John Blaze - is an emcee from Calcutta, India. He is one-third of the rap crew FreeFLO. Born on 21/3/92, he is one of the youngest emcees in India, but has talent that is ahead of his time. He first got into rap in 2005, and started writing and recording in 2008. Although listening to commercial hip hop artists at first, he eventually outgrew the repetitive beats and subject matter of the mainstream artists and began listening to less known and independent artists. Eventually, he realized his own musical ability far exceeded most the artists he heard getting airplay and he became an artist himself. Heavily influenced by artists such as Big Pun, Big L, Kool G Rap, Crooked I and Blue Scholars, he adapted a style to emphasize on the one thing he admired the most in true hip hop music - lyrical content. He is now considered arguably India's best and most consistent lyricist, delivering gritty punch lines with a multi-syllabic delivery and a fast flow, over hard-hitting beats.

Raz

Somraj Ganguli a.k.a RAZ started off his rap career with the crew 'AYEmenn' consisting two other Emcees and was steady with the performances until internal disputes lead the crew to be broken apart and causing Raz to go solo. He then started recording on his own and performing solo across the city until Lyrik and Homicide got in touch with him and 3 of them formed FreeFLO, which turned out to be something different than all the 3's individual tastes and the blend of all three different styles of hip hop with a commercial touch gave birth to the unique yet popular sounds of FreeFLO. RAZ is mostly influenced by rappers like Eminem, 2pac, tech n9ne, immortal technique, Mike Shinoda, but his main focus is in the technical part of rap. Multi syllable flow and word play with multi rhyme schemes with a special switch flow technique sets him apart with a special fast flow style.

Satyaki Bose a.k.a Homicide has influences from the west coast rappers like 2pac, The Game, Biggie, Wu Tang Clan etc. He is famous for his laid back flow with killer punches and old school word play. He started off rapping in London and participating in several battles and winning many. Later after coming to India he met Lyrik and then formed Crooked Rhyme with him. Later Somraj came in and the story goes on.

FreeFLO is just starting with different sounds altogether, with a variety of songs unlike anything before. Starting from club bangers to socially conscious hip hop and even something you can all nod your heads to. With a big set songs coming ahead, FreeFLO is setting the floor to show the dawn of HIP HOP in Kolkata by hitting the streets by masses.

Priyanshi

The sound of FreeFLO is also greatly supported and enlighten by the contributions of Priyanshi Durbha. Priyanshi has been playing with a live band across the city. Later she was invited by Homicide to be featured in FreeFLO as a guest artist singing on the chorus of a song. Soon enough her voice proved to be exactly what FreeFLO numbers required and so, along with two other guest artists, Sandeepan and Sankhayan Ghosh, came a variety of FreeFLO songs.

The Demo of FreeFLO consists of 7 songs one of which features 3 other rappers across the globe, Srik, Ko The Timeless and Skizzophonic. Currently FreeFLO is working on an even wider range of music which Kolkata is ready for and also for its international audience with a producer, Shovon Mukherjee, who also happens to be the newest addition to the crew. The new sounds of FreeFLO promise to be something that is going to blow the minds of every audience it hits. FreeFLO has already laid its foundation by launching The Demo album: The New Era or The New Beginning, thereby keeping the crowd guessing about what's to come in the upcoming album.
