Join us in saluting the Independent Music (often abbreviated to "indie") movement which strives to break away from profit and commercial oriented appeal desired by big record companies, towards the free human spirit that unleashes creativity. We present works of indie artistes and musicians from across the globe, and ask for your indulgence if we are biased towards our hometown of Kolkata, erstwhile Calcutta, the capital of the State of West Bengal, the cultural capital of India, and the political capital of bygone days of British India. It is said what Bengal thinks today, India thinks tomorrow, and you will find that young women and men of Calcutta, experimenting with the indie do-it-yourself style of music, from composition to lyrics to recording and performance, stand proud with their peers in Delhi, Mumbai, New York, London, Paris, Rome, Tokyo and similar bastions of musical creativity. Somewhere down your journey through these pages, you will find the excitement and be heartened in remembrance of the last time you were in a pub off Park Street, Calcutta when a yet unknown live band got you hooked on to beautiful guitar riffs capturing the best of Indian Classical and Western harmonics somehow touching your heart. Or maybe it was in Seoul, or Mexico City, or Rio de Janeiro. Does not matter - welcome to the global indie site in the age of the Internet, and enjoy your time here.

Comprising of just 3 members playing bass, guitar and drums, one could be forgiven for assuming that Citizen Snips are just another generic alt-rock trio with a strange name. However, with emphasis placed on creating new music and exploring sonic possibilities this is exactly what the Northern Ireland trio are NOT. The band has a cohesive ethos of refusing to be confined to traditional musical practices such as conventional song structure, predictable tonality and cop-out musical cliches.

Playing the local scene in Kolkata since January 2008, Gravy Theory includes Souradeep Raul Datta [vocals], Prince Sam Phillips [guitars], Somdev Thakur [guitars], Siddharth Cuppa Bhunia [bass] and Priyam Rico Chatterjee [drums]. They harp on a unique alternative/ post-grunge style that seeks to introduce an edgy, dynamic and yet a carelessly volatile punch of sound into the spectrum of the Indian rock scene. The heady mix of aggressive, temperamental sounds accentuates their high energy stage act that the band pulls off with conviction every single time.
