Five Little Indians - A Unique Soundscape That Can Only Be Defined As Its Own


Five Little Indians, better known by its acronym FLI, was formed in January 2007 with former members of some well-known Calcutta-based bands. The band merges strong grunge/prog roots with melodic rock, blending a heavier sound with singer-songwriter sensibilities. FLI are Neel Adhikari (vocals, guitars), Allan Ao (guitars), Arka Das (drums and percussion), Sayak Bandyopadhyay (vocals) and Sanket Bhattacharya (bass).

Dhamaar

In the Indian Classical Music the "taal" is the rhythmic basis. A cycle of beats (which may range anywhere between 3 and 108) creates a cycle of the taal. Folk music from India - An Introduction

India is very rich and diversified when it comes to folk music.  The cultural diversity across the country creates endless flavors of folk styles.  Each region has its own flavor and charisma.

A common ear may confuse folk and tribal music but they are entirely two different styles of music. The similarity between these two styles is none of them a formal finishing school and mostly learnt and practiced as they have been passed on from one generation to other.Folk music came associated with various social events (example wedding/marriage, birth, hunting, harvest etc.). These events gave the people a chance to practice, polish and perform this musical form.
